40 Days of Fitness – Day 6

Do your one thing… it’s probably annoying.. I misssed 10 push ups yesterday (I’m doing two sets of 20 and one set of 10) and I forgot the last set. But the goal isn’t to dwell on it but that I will just not miss anymore if I can. I can already feel it getting easier, but I still do them on my knees… hopefully by day 20 I can do real ones.

So today’s tip… involve the whole family! I’m thinking that most of those that read this have kids. In this day and age with so many unhealthy choices for kids to make I think it’s good for them to see that making healthy choices is something important to his/her parents. I made these two charts over 3 years ago. Sassy pants wasn’t even 2 so she usually rocked it because you don’t really let 2 year olds make unhealthy choices. Its a healthy choice game. We would play everyday at dinner that way it would give some members of the family a chance to redeem themselves for the day. Each member of the family has a row with one box for each day. In each box their are check marks for Fruit, veggies, 3 waters (one box), exercise, and  no sweets. The goal is to get 6 checks to get credit for the day. You can eat 5 fruit servings and drink 3 glasses of water to get credit for the day or you can exercise, eat 2 fruits, eat 1 veggie, drink 3 waters, and don’t eat sweets and you can get credit. We tried to not make it impossible, but I didn’t want it to be exactly what they do everyday. Sassy Pants almost always eats 5 fruits and vegetables, but she isn’t as good at doing active stuff like Miss Thing is, so it sometimes evens out. It is often hardest for my husband who is at work for a good part of the day, but it is a good motivator for him! So if you see in teh picture the second chart is a whole bunch of smiley face rows. There is one row for each family member and everytday they get 6 check marks they can color in a smiley face on the way to their goal. The goal should be something fun but healthy (a bike ride with mom, a family ice skating trip, make dinner together, etc. for moms it can be an hour yoga tape without kids running around, or a walking trip around the mall.) I laminate the first sheet and use a dry erase to make the checks, or you could print it out everyweek, and I just print out the other one and we color it in. We use to use magnets that were shaped like the smiley faces, but we have lost them in the move.
Here are the pictures of the files. Here are the pdfs (healthyfoodchart and healthyboard).  I hope that they work. If you have five family members and you think you would like to do this let me know and I’ll make you ones.

I love this, Kelly! I’m printing them out first thing tomorrow so the printer doesn’t wake up the kids right now :) You have such great ideas, thanks for sharing them!
