40 days of Ftiness – Day 23

Do your one thing. If you’ve ever slipped up you need to know you are in good company. Yesterday I did only 25 push ups and they were all on my knees. Doing pushups the real is really notnearly as fun!
Todays tip – get a buddy. Really find the one friend that has the same goals or at least similar goals to you. It doesn’t have to be someone super close but if you do it right you will be close at the end. I have a running buddy. She wanted to run outside today. Really? It’s 17 degrees? Really? Sassy Pant’s (my 5 year old) had the stomach flu this weekend (she threw up in someone else’s car! I felt horrible – it looked horrible) so I didn’t run my usual long run and then on Monday I walked.. it was so relaxing. But I paid for it today. That’s the thing with running, it’s kind of like an overbearing mom – if you visit it often it’s okay but if not it’s a nag. So today at 9:15 I was dressed like the stay puffed marshmallow man and hurt every minute of the run. I wouldn’t have done it without my running buddy, and now I’m so thankful that I ran. Having a friend helps because there will be a better chance that you both won’t want to skip out at the same time. It’s just good math.
Now if I could just get a push up buddy….

Still doing my 50 push-ups…most days. I can be a virtual “buddy”!

I will totally be your push up buddy! How do you do them?

I started by doing 5 sets of ten (from my feet) throughout the day (usually 3 sets in the am and two in the pm). But, I wasn’t being consistent until I started reading your blog (thanks!). For roughly a week I did my “daily 50” and was VERY sore every day. Then I was able to do all five sets back-to-back and couldn’t believe how much stronger I felt. Now I am up to sets of fifteen (plus the remainder). I hadn’t even dreamed of being able to do all fifty together someday (far, far away) until I was reading your posts (again, thank you!). I love that on the days (or even weeks) that I can’t make my cardio exercise a priority, I can still feel GREAT by keeping up with my push-ups. And now, I have a buddy 😉 BTW, I also try and do wall squats (not sure what they are actually called) for a minute in between my sets. Keep up the hard work and the great posts! I look forward to reading my little bit of motivation every day!

I thought about wall squats today, but I think I’ll master this first! I agree with the cardio thing. I run Sat, Mon, Wed and Thursday and I try to work out Tues, fri, and Sun but sometimes it doesn’t happen, like today, but at least we always have the pushups.

I’m so glad that you’re my running buddy! And I’m so glad that you ran with me yesterday, it would have been so much worse without you!
